Frequently Asked Questions

Is the van self-drive or chauffeur-driven?

All our tours come with an experienced, English-speaking chauffeur-guide. You sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery while we handle the driving on Sri Lanka's winding roads.

Where do we sleep?

Depending on the tour, you'll stay in a mix of comfortable hotels and guesthouses. Some nights you may wild camp in scenic spots with the van — the choice is part of the adventure!

What meals are included?

Breakfast is typically included at each accommodation. The camper van has a kitchen setup so you can also prepare your own meals. Your guide can recommend great local restaurants along the route.

Is it safe for families with children?

Absolutely! Sri Lanka is a family-friendly destination and our van is equipped with all safety features. We offer child car seats as an optional extra (€2/day).

What's the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 30 days before your start date for a full refund. Cancellations 15–29 days before receive a 75% refund, 7–14 days receive 50%, and less than 7 days are non-refundable. See our Terms & Conditions for full details.

Can I customise a fixed itinerary?

Yes! Fixed itineraries are a starting point. Once you book, we can tweak stops, add extra days, or adjust activities to suit your preferences. Alternatively, use our Build a Vanventure tool to design a trip from scratch.

What's the weather like? When should I visit?

Sri Lanka is a year-round destination. The west/south coasts are best from December to March, while the east coast shines from May to September. Check our weather guide for a month-by-month breakdown.

What happens if the van breaks down?

Our van is regularly maintained and serviced. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, we provide 24/7 roadside assistance and a replacement vehicle if needed.

How many people can the van accommodate?

The camper van comfortably sleeps 2 adults with a convertible double bed. With the outdoor setup, it works well for up to 4 people. For larger groups, contact us for tailored arrangements.

What facilities does the van have?

Our fully equipped 4×4 camper includes a kitchen (gas cooker, fridge, cookware), private washroom (toilet, shower, hot water), A/C, generator, outdoor wooden lounge set, and ample storage. See the Van page for the full spec list.

Do I need a visa to visit Sri Lanka?

Most nationalities need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) which can be obtained online before departure or on arrival. It's valid for 30 days and costs approximately $50 USD. Check the Sri Lankan immigration website for the latest requirements.

Is travel insurance required?

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, trip cancellation, and personal belongings. Insurance is not included in our tour prices. We suggest policies that cover adventurous travel activities.

What should I pack for a camper van trip?

Light, breathable clothing, swimwear, a warm layer for hill country, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a portable charger. We provide bedding, towels, and all kitchen equipment. Check our packing guide for a full checklist.

Is there Wi-Fi in the van?

We provide a local SIM card with a generous data package so you can stay connected throughout your trip. Most accommodation stops along the route also have Wi-Fi. We recommend downloading offline maps before your journey.

How do I pay and what currency is used?

All tour prices are listed in Euros (€). We accept a €300 refundable deposit at booking, with the balance due 14 days before departure. Payment can be made via bank transfer. Local spending in Sri Lanka is in Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) — ATMs are widely available.

Can I bring my pet?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate pets in the camper van for hygiene and safety reasons. If you're travelling with a service animal, please contact us in advance to discuss arrangements.

What are the road conditions like?

Sri Lanka's main highways are well-maintained, but rural roads can be narrow and winding. Our 4×4 van is built for all terrains and our experienced drivers know every route. Average driving is 3–5 hours per day with plenty of scenic stops.

How do I book and what's the process?

Select your tour or build a custom Vanventure, fill in the booking form above, and send it via WhatsApp. Our team will confirm availability within 24 hours and send you a detailed itinerary. A €300 deposit secures your dates.
