Our story

Two friends. One island. Twenty-five years.

Sha Lanka Travels was founded by Suranga Perera and Shaman Rukmal — two life-long friends who couldn't stop showing visitors the parts of Sri Lanka they loved most.

Hills of Sri Lanka
Sha — "superb" in Sinhala

The best parts of this island aren't found at a hotel reception.

We started taking travellers around Sri Lanka in 1999 — first by jeep, then by motorcycle, then by tuk-tuk. The camper van came after years of being asked the same question: "Can we just sleep where we end up?"

So we built one. A 4×4 motorhome, kitted out with everything you need for two weeks off-grid — but light enough to bridge a paddy track and discreet enough to park beside a temple. Sleeps 2–4. Hot shower. Outdoor lounge. Generator for the bits where the grid runs out.

It took two years to design. We're family-run, two-founder, one-van. That's the point.

What we believe

Six things we won't compromise on

Our values

01

Authentic experiences

We park where the postcards don't reach. Local food, local guides, and the back-roads that make a trip yours.

02

Safety first

Licensed, insured, GPS-tracked. 24/7 road support and a driver who has done every kilometre many times before.

03

Personalised service

One van. One small team. We know your trip by name, not booking number.

04

Sustainable tourism

We work with small operators, hire local, and pack out what we pack in. Always.

05

Excellence

25+ years of guest feedback baked into every detail. We sweat the small stuff.

06

Trust & reliability

Family-run since 1999. The same two phone numbers that have answered for 25 years.
