The full plan

Day 1

Our head office → Anuradhapura

Pick-up from our head office. Drive north into the dry zone. Sacred city of Anuradhapura — 2,000-year-old stupas, the bodhi tree, ancient water tanks.

Day 2

Mannar & the dunes

Drive along the causeway to Mannar Island. Baobab trees, wild donkeys, and one of the country's emptiest beaches.

Day 3

Jaffna peninsula

The far north. Tamil temples, Casuarina beach, the islands of Karainagar and Nainativu by ferry. Different food, different language, different rhythm.

Day 4

Trincomalee

Cross the country east. Arrive at Trincomalee — natural harbour, Koneswaram temple on the cliff, sunrise at Nilaveli beach.

Day 5

Pasikuda → Arugam

Snorkel at Pigeon Island. Long coastal drive south to Arugam Bay — the surf capital of Sri Lanka.

Day 6

Arugam Bay surf

A full day of surf at the Point, Whiskey Point, Peanut Farm. Lazy lunches, lazy afternoons.

Day 7

Yala safari

Drive west into Yala. Afternoon and dawn jeep safaris bookend the day — best chance to see the leopards.

Day 8

Mirissa & south coast

Stilt fishermen, palm groves, whale-watch boat (Nov–Apr). Park beachside.

Day 9

Galle Fort

A full day in the 17th-century Dutch fort. Lighthouse, ramparts, lace, the famous fort cafe. Sundowners on the walls.

Day 10

Up into the highlands

The dramatic drive from sea level to 1,800m. Tea estates, waterfalls, Ella town. Park at the foot of the hills.

Day 11

Nine Arches, train, Nuwara Eliya

The blue train through the tea hills. Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam Peak. Park at Nuwara Eliya — bring a fleece.
